I've just finished putting the decals on - very smart. The rims are the original chrome ones that have been coated along with all the other blue bits (apart from the seat and tyres before anyone starts ) The rims were a bit of a dilemma from the start as both had a deep score which penetrated the chrome, it looked like it might have been done by badly fitted brake blocks where the metal shoe holder may have come into contact with the rim. I spent alot of time searching the internet for replacement rims with no luck so I cleaned them up the best I could before they were coated. What I didn't realize that where the nylon coating comes into contact with 'blemishes' (rust, pits, blisters etc) it leaves a small bubble in the coating so my score around the edge of the rim was a slight let down but in time the blue coating on the edge of the rim will start to disappear as the brake blocks start to wear it down. My top tip for anyone who is thinking of doing a restoration on a blue bomber is don't buy a pile of cr@p thinking that it will be a good bike to restore, you need to buy a bike with the best chrome - unless you fancy spending £££'s getting it rechromed first - the better the chrome, the better the finish. Yes Paul, the wee clamps that hold the rear brake cable had snapped clean off before I got the bike, the cable ties are a temporary thing until I get something else sorted.
