You need a dating letter from the vespa club of GB. You send them some photos of the bike with engine number and frame number on They send you back a certificate confirming when it was made You go to the nearest DVLA office to register it, then MOT and tax it. Doesn't take long. I've got my 1960 one to do soon

Slightly incorrect information given.
You first need the dating certificate
Then bike need to be MOT'd
Then you need an insurance certificate on the frame number
Off to your local DVLA to apply an inspection date. Taking with you all you documentation filled out form V50/v55 plus driving licence or passport and recent utility bill. Also your bill of sale as being imported you may need to pay customs.
If you meet all necessary requirements they will issue you with an inspection date at a local vosa test/inspection centre.
Where they check all engine and frame numbers match and verify the bike is as per documentation
So its not quite as easy as a previous thread says.
And i know as i have just been through it all with my 1958 series 1.

I was only going by the guy we got it off. Maybe he just made it sound a bit easier than it really is. If you're taking it to the MOT in the back of a van, surely it doesn't need to be insured first ? Our DVLA /VOSA people do home visits. I haven't got a receipt for the '60, so maybe it's a no-go anyway

DVLA require it to be insured when you apply for inspection.
You cant ride it because its not road registerd......
1st i have heard about dvla/vosa home visits and i have done to bikes and allways had to take them for inspection.
Check the facts out with dlva dont go on speculation.

I mean they'll be no duty to pay anyway as it was imported from Italy surely. The guy I got the '60 off brought back a whole container of lambrettas and my VNB That was 3 years ago, do you think the DVLA will get funny about no import papers ?
