You will need a bill of sale from him, or the customs paper work for that bike. Or otherwise how did you come by it thats what they will ask.
Its all about proof and paperwork to them, If you cant provide what they require it just causes hassle.
Why do you think people are quick to buy cheap bikes just to nick there identity and put it on what they have.

Yup got none of that paperwork at all It's got all it's serial numbers on, and a tax disc from Italy dated 1971 and thats about it I'll drag it out the shed, get it ready for the MOT and try and get it dated and see what happens from there

The tax disc wont do you any faviours, It only goes to show its been imported so therefore you would need a sales invoice or customs paperwork.
Your best bet is to go to the local dvla and ask there advise on registering a bike that you brought secondhand from a autojumble, cash sale sold as seen no recipt given.
But you will need a dating cert 1st so you can prove to them the thing exists.

Those guards have gone now, but unfortunately the orange lenses were broken underneath So I had a dig around in my big box of vespa spares and found some clear/smoked ones with orange bulbs. Also found a mph speedo and a spare wheel cover Did the steering lock today as well, so it means we can actually ride it and leave it parked up Also means we can sell the other half's Suzuki VanVan now although she might not know that yet Silly arty shot with vignette effect on my HTC and normal pic
