hi mate 8-)right mk2 seats are shorter than mk1s ,the one in the pic is a mk2,seat covers are on ebay or at billing in june. pic the best rear mudguard out and sell the rest they do good money £20-£35 each ish. try and buy a ladies or gents raleigh bike from the mid 70s then youl have a ll ya brakes n levers r-nuts etc etc.. frame number should be on the seat down tube at the rear. homepage.ntlworld.com/catfoodrob/choppers/models/modelsdating3.htmlas far as colours i think the yellow is the best colour. raleigh-chopper-net.tripod.com/Raleigh_Chopper_Colours.htmebay is the easiest place to get bits but not the cheapest...put a wanted add on here or just get everything at the chopper rally at billing hope this helps

Ok will do cheers Also while i remember, Just been going thru ebay looking at bits and bobs.. Am i right in thinking mk2's had the one piece handlebar and stem arangement? My bars went missing, Think they accidentally got given to the scrap metal man... Not a huge deal as they were bent and rusty as hell.

Right , First off... It was on the left chain stay ;D Secondly... The number is a bit wierd. Its back to shiny metal using some sandpaper so i havnt filed a few numbers off. But the number is 1637244 Going by the raleigh chopper frame number site, That doesnt sound right? Shouldnt it have the N for nottingham letter? And if 1 is for the month, (jan) then 6 would be 76 , But they didnt put the number there after 72?

what's the hub date on the back wheel?

I never ever go by hub date, The amount of wheels that were swapped under warrenty especially on old kids bikes kinda makes it a pretty hard way to date a bike.. But for the record the wheel fittd is NOV 76. That said, Im pretty confident thats off a grifter i had as i bought the bike without a rear wheel, chainguard, And seat iirc.... Not to mention the fact they moved the frame number up to the seat tube in 72 means that its got to be a 72 or earlier doesnt it? Im crap with choppers

Its an early mk2, that number wont give you a date, i have one the same. i would say it was a 72, check the rear hub its the best way. the pedals look early aswell. If the number was on the seat post then that is easy to sort out, maybe even a mk1 frame i can have a rough guess, but these early mk2's all seem to be 72. Nobody has put up any info on the early numbers.
