Hi Colin, The first gripshift pictured was used on the MK1 & Mk2 Grifters only. So 1976-1979/80 The second gripshift was commonly found on the XL, GS, and Supergrifters. So 1980-82/3 I hope this helps. The internals on the second gripshift pictured are totally different to the early gripshift and cannot be interchanged. The design was changed to prevent the selector window from sliding internally, thus hiding the selector window and therefore the rider doesn't know what gear is selected. This was a common problem and it puzzles me why Raleigh left it so long to modify the design. Maybe it was a case of having to use the hundred of thousand units already made?
