Why does my MK2 super burner have two frame/ serial numbers ?
One number is under the crank case and one number is on the seat tube.
Why is this and what is the purpose as both numbers are different, EG, the crank number starts NL400****, the seat tube number starts NK 401****

Bit of a late reply, but both were factory stamped numbers and under the yellow lacquer / coating.
Mind, i think this was answered wasn't it ??

Hi ya,I spend most of my time over on RB.Com and this topic has come up before. For ages people thought that mk1 burners had a number on the post and MK2 on the crank. But as more people came on the site it became clear that that wasnt always the case.I.E. I have mk2 ultra with number on post and and a mag burner with number o the BB.We first thought that only the Ultra and chrome burners upmarket models had the number on the post, lesser models on the BB,which again was proved wrong.I have a mk2 blue burner with number on post. After many discusions we have come to the conclusion that raleigh stamped the bars/bbs before they were welded together. There may have been a worker stamping bbs for a run and then he would change on to posts for a while, the BBs being same as some other bikes. So the chap welding the frame together would just pick his required piece of frame out of a parts bin.It the bin had just been filled it may or not have stamped pieces in it.If said welder was working on a friday afternoon he probably wasnt botherd if he picked out two stamped pieces. Although not unheard of,it is quite rare to have a double stamped bike...... Hope that made sence. Please PM me if you need anymore help Kind Regards.
