Im moving/getting thrown out my house. So thought I would have a fire to burn some stuff. Like furniture and video tapes. I went out to my grassy muddy back yard. Removed the clothes dryer frame thing from its pole. Then put a couple of wooden cabinets that my brother had dumped in the back yard from the shed. I put some old shirts and paper in and splashed about a pint of parafin on it. Then tried for 10 minutes to light it. Good thing I dont smoke as I think I could only ignite one ciggarette a day.
It started burning so I put a couple of book cases on top of it. Was tending it for a while. Then went upstairs for more stuff. Came back and fire was rather high. The cabinets are about 3 feet tall, then flames were another 10 feet.
My camera decided to be arty and make the flames purple.
Then the wind got up again. Has been 60mph acording to the weather girl. And the flames got blown across to the pile of bikes that was 5 feet away. There was plastic bags covering them. So that all went up. I had several barrels of Parafin behind the bikes. So moved them and got my bucket.
Ive got better buckets. But it was on the scrap pile beside my water butts. I call it my Dutch Bucket. As theres a hole in it that needs my finger in it. You can see a light coloured crease about an inch above the base.
I used it to empty a full 4 foot high waterbutt on the flames. When running to and fro I was shouting... HELP FIRE
The road workers came down the road and seen me. So phoned for help.
I couldnt throw water all the way along my neighbours shed. So took my Dutch bucket and walked quickly out of garden and down neighbours drive. All the time the bucket was peeing down my leg. Was about half water in it when I got to shed.
I had about 10 foot left of burning stuff to dowse when the youngest police man in the world came and told me to stop.
Thats the pile of mangled bikes. Nothing much Raleigh Action bike amoungst them. There was an alloy y frame near the glass. I looked at the back end. Its ok. Along the tube, to the non existent melted away headstock. I was standing beside the glass when splashing the shed.
2 fire engines came to put it out. Has been raining on and off all day too.
I might get charged for that. I dont know if the insurance will go up.
My neighbours were ok about it. They are elderly retired teachers. I offered them the 2 sheds that I had taken down from my garden. But I geuss the insurance will get them a new shed
