ive just bought an 85 maverick off ebay, i pick it up this sunday, just wondered if anyone else has one of these, i have an original maverick brochure but the colourway im buying isnt shown, its like a dark gunmetal colour that fades into a champagne colour, any scans would be very useful

Someone was telling me about the Maverick yesterday at Brightona. He seemed to know his stuff, He said that before the Maverick mountain bike that you see here, the Maverick was a Bomber frame with parts of the Maverick mountain bike. Could be right as we know Raleigh did use up parts in the factory to get rid of em.

back to the 80's! guessing this picture would have been taken about 1986/87, as far as i can remember my maverick frame was pretty much identical to the "mustang" frame as seen on 77grifters www.thegrifterstop.com/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=131

cheers men, i kind of like it although its nothing like a modern machine, its more like a sporty bomber its meant to be one of the first mavericks built and looks like it would fold on the first mountain it hit but i would say its more of an ACTION bike than a mountain bike and it will only get gentle trekking from me ;D

so are those before they brought out the Mustang I had a freind that had a Mustang in the early 90s. The black and white bike. I got the bars off it as he fitted BMX bars, wanted a upright position. I had the bars on my Vindec racer. I recently built up a Mustang copy from a Hi Trail. Will paint it black and white. Looking for Mustang stickers though

Now THAT is the proper Maverick, sorry but I don't like the red one. I bought the LEE CHI brake handles as the sturmey ones are flimsy and disintegrated, I saw them on the Maverick and liked them. I also bought the same crank as the Maverick, but the bomber chain, derailleur changer and gears, don't fit the crank fully. I do intend to get it right one of these days!!!
I used to have decals for the 3 speed lying spare, if I find them I'll put them up for offer. I also have the giant chrome mudguards spare, my Dad bought them new, I thought they ruined it and took them off again.
