1981 Vespa P150X Bought in bits with loads of bits missing. Spent 2 months putting it back together. Bought it for the missus to pass her test on and then found out it was 150cc instead of 125cc DOH! Needs a few things for the MOT and then sell it. 1960 Vespa VNB1T Bought after realising the other one was a 150 Intended to just get it on the road as is, but my 3 year old at the time sat on it and snapped the speedo needle off. not the easiest thing to find, even on Italian ebay Still got the original toolroll and dealer plaque Been off Italian roads since 1971 and it's still got the original Italian tax disc on it Found 1979 Vespa P125E that had no frame number on it So bought a 2000 Bajaj frame for it on ebay for pennies and swapped all the bits over. This will be the runaround town scoot for me and the missus vespa frame stripped everything swapped over from the vespa to the bajaj the missus has a 2004 Suzuki VanVan for doing her test on

What are the Bajaj's like quality-wise compared to Italian Vespas? I nearly bought a blown LML a year or two ago as a runaround intending to stick a PX200 motor in it.
Thanks for posting up the pic of the Van Van. I want to replace the pony looking black plastic indicators on my 1400 and the ones from a Van Van look ideal with the advantage of being a Suzuki part raher than a custom jobbie with unobtanium lenses etc. ;D

It was watching Quadrophenia with the Vespas and Lambrettas that got me back into motorbikes, Nice.

That film had a profound effect on me for different reasons.
I lived with my Grandparents but spent every other weekend at my Dad's which basically meant spending time in his workshop helping to shoehorn bigger motors into Minis.
I soon bored of that but my interest picked up when his mate gave him a pair of old Bantams, that I prompty converted into one Bantam (crap) motocrosser.
I'd seen a few old scooters when we holidayed in Gt Yarmouth every year so in '77 I asked my dad to see if he could find an old Vespa for me to restore for when I was 17. I figured that everyone else into bikes at 17 would be signing HP forms for the latest 90+mph Jap 250 and I'd be riding around on an uber-cool Vespa that nobody else had got.
The BantaMX was sold to raise funds (and if anyone knows who bought it, I'm sorry about the welding, OK)
My Dad surpassed himself. What turned up in the workshop was a very tatty Lambretta GP200 rescued from the back of someone's garage. I spent a lot of hours on that scooter but still had loads of fun with the inevitable "test rides" on the fields nearby. I cycled miles to pick up bits for it and my Dad's phone bill mysteriously got bigger and bigger!
My 17th birthday was at the end of September 1979 and the Lamby was finished well before that, in fact right when THAT BL**DY FILM was released!
Suddenly, "Jimmy" and "Ace" clones appeared from nowhere and old scooters got dragged out from sheds the length and breadth of the land.
From being cool and unusual, my scooter became as common as muck.
Mind you, cashing it in for a sizeable wad from a spotty nouveau-mod's rich Daddy kept me in cheap motorbikes for a while, which would otherwise have been impossible on my apprentice wages. ;D

Never like the stereotypes associated with having a scooter though. I wasn't a mod with mirrors all over it, and I wasn't a skin with the DMs and bleached Levis either. In fact my first Vespa was sprayed to match my VW Camper at the time ( Orange ) had skate stickers on the glovebox and I had shoulder length hair. Had a cutdown 59 Lambretta Li 150 with 225 and chromed pipe my first Vespa PX125E had a P200, then got the cutdown then after having 3 kids I sold the scooters and ended up buying a '77 CB250 for £100 just for commuting

Ged, Your story about how everyone bought Scooters after the film came out makes me laugh And Mushroom i love the DT in the background. When i started biking in '89 the DT (only the 50cc version) was a bike my mates had while i only had a much slower Tomos Wasn't always bad though, One time when i dropped back from the pack i turned the corner and found they'd all been stopped by the Police

it was a project bike. He had a few from the 50s up to modern bikes, there was a really cool looking speedway bike for sale too but not very practical
