Predominantly for Brett, here's the 883R I owned a few months ago, and the GSX1400 I got in a swap deal for it. Having ridden Harleys for 13 years I was tremendously hacked off when I had to sell my FXD1450 because it hurt my knee (old injury). Having ridden around on a Gilera Nexus 500 Scooter (very underrated) for 3 years I chanced upon this 883R on fleabay nearing the end of its auction and at a very silly low price. So I bid.....and won it! I put 1600 miles on it in 3 weeks, culminating in a trip down to the New Forest Sady, on my return, I found I couldn't get off the damned bike as my knee had stuck painfully in the rigid position it has to get into to wrap around the sticky-out air filter. So, to save my riding season and with the Bulldog Bash 2 weeks away I decided to see if I could swap it for a nearly new Bandit. Ayway, Haslemere Motorcycles had a bike in that I'd covetted since its launch, the GSX1400. It was a bit unloved and in a word, tatty. But the motors are generally unburstable on these bikes and the cult following they have means that most of the tatty areas could easily be sorted out. The rest could stay as they were. If I have an immaculate bke I spend more time keeping it that way. Tatty bikes get ridden more in my life ;D So, here's what I swapped the Harley for. '06 GSX1400 Suzuki Final Edition (the model was killed off by Euro 3 emissions regulations). In a word it is marvellous! ;D ;D

Is that Harley the same bike as ridden by knievel? Looks it. Tis smart. I prefer your new one though, I love muscle bikes, There is so much engine on your new bike that it looks like its been jammed in there! I see Linda got the driving school going. Excellent!

Nice bike, it's nice to see a big capacity bike without a mountain of plastic ontop of it - reminds me of Z1000's, CBX's and Goldwings with dummy petrol tanks, back in the day when men were men and hedges had holes in them coz the brakes were crap!!
I'll try to get some photo's of my jalopoly when i get a chance.

Knievel's bike and that one started out as the seme thing, an XR750 Flat Track Racer. The XR begat the XL, which has been the Sportster street bike line for HD since the late 50s. The paint scheme on the 883R is, however, based more upon the XR750 of Jay Springsteen:- Knievel's jump XRs were invariably painted in American Flag colours:- BUT, when I picked the 883R up the guy asked if I'd had Harleys before. My reply was "Yes, six of them". He patently wasn't listening as he insisted on spouting rubbish that its previous owner had told him...........including that this was a limited edition "Evel" model because of the skulls on the gas cap and wheel nuts! Yeah right! I had a scooter run booked for the weekend after I got it and took the HD as I'd lined up a buyer for the Gilera. One of the guys on the run looked at it and said "Ahhh, Evel Knievel model" so maybe there's summat in it I don't know! Just for he "aaah" factor, James went to his first NEC motorcycle show when he was 13. One of the few pictures we took was him sat on an 883R. ;D Yes, Linda qualified after 14 long hard months of training which was worth it as she is independently self employed. She could have done it quicker through one of the franchise companies but we're glad she didn't. She's got 6 young 'uns through their test now, with 4 of them passing first time. ;D She's also done a good turn in teaching oldies how to parallel park properly. Nice bike, it's nice to see a big capacity bike without a mountain of plastic ontop of it - reminds me of Z1000's, CBX's and Goldwings with dummy petrol tanks, back in the day when men were men and hedges had holes in them coz the brakes were crap!! I need to do a bit of fettling yet on her, but not too much as I like the patina you get on a used bike and it means there's no pressure to keep it immaculate. ;D
