Well I am fairly new to this retro bike mullarky, have got my eye out for an Orange P7 or earlyish Kona and I also really wanted a blue Raleigh Bomber for cruising along the beach. Anyway in the meantime I have been working on my old Bianchi road bike and then bump into a friend of my parents who I always knew was a real spoke head, we get talking about bikes and he happens to mention that he has got a Bomber albeit in black and single speed along with a Grifter XL both in pretty good nick - he wanted rid of them as they were taking up space so asked if I was interested, so here I am thinking he is gonna want a packet but no - £40 the pair!!! Picked them up today here are the pics.....

The grifter frame is dated Feb 82 with a hub from 83. How do I date the Bomber?

I'd say the bomber was also an 82/83 as it has the later features on it.

Hi Bomberman, I got to this forum via your website - you clearly know your Bombers!

There is a frame number, but it is quite faint - do the numbers follow a similar dating system to Grifters?
Obviously the pedals on mine have been changed but other than that *I think* it is all standard? Didn't realise that they came as single speed as an option?

So far i've cleaned it up and took it for a cruise along the beach yesterday - absolutely perfect and exactly what it was designed for. I felt uber and was ;D from ear to ear!!

I think I will enjoy it for the summer then look to restore over winter, actually I think it should be relatively easy, everything is there, just few scratches on the frame (which I will repaint, maybe powdercoat) and the decals, so I am sure I will have lots of questions!

I had to sell the Kona as it was too nice for me, I only ride heaps.......

I know that it should have rat traps on it, I really like the ones that are on it though.... maybe I'll try and get some when I do a resto on it
