Just found this on (i think) an American cycle forum.
"Hi new member here. I used to work for Raleigh and worked on the launch of the Grifter. It certainly was not a BMX bike as we know them now. We had outside demos of the bikes with kids riding them over jumps and ramps etc, bad idea as while it had BMX styling, the forks were conventional leading to embarrassing behind the scenes fork changes as the bend became more and more acute. At the time sworn to secrecy but that was nearly 20 years ago so don't suppose it matters now."

i could of told them that when i bent my forks jumping a ramp in hayes when i was about 13!!!
