what a nightmare that was, theres me thinking the blue mk1 colour would be easy to match, flicked through hundreds of blue swatches of every known motor manufacturer and nothing was 99% close, not even 95% so i had to have a litre of base coat specially tinted. I already had half a litre of ford cosmos blue but it was always much to light, so i took an original frame set i have to the paint factors and spent an hour or two with colour cards before we decided to make our own tint, it dosnt show up as well in these pics but its 100% bang on ;D....





ive put a couple of pics on just to show how far out cosmos blue is, cosmos is the lighter colour......

I took my forks to the paint shop and found that ford azura blue was the closest i could get but like we said before there is a slight difference in the space blue colours.

I will post some pictures once i start to paint them.

Im looking forward to seeing this one done and with the early mudguards im jealous!!!

As with the red MK1's everyones bike shade will vary, my '76 is much lighter than my '79, the cosmos blue is really close to my '76 but nowhere near the '79, that dastardly UV light up to its old tricks again

your right mate theres so much shade difference even if you go with the colour hidden in the forks.

We must remember it was the 70s when they were made so they didnt have the tecno we have today so as long as its near as you can get to the colour on your forks thats fine. ;D

just seeing all these mk1s come alive makes me very happy
