Heres some information that Bendycat Eleventeen wrote to me a while back. This should be a help to others.
Right mate - lets say a bmx -
you can use post office or a courier - i use courier
the bike can be wrapped in bubble wrap and tape or put in a box - i use box
the courier charges by volume - this is taken by size of the box - it has to be under a certain size to get a good price - 120 x30 x60 is about the standard size and usually any thing over will be charged double
my last bike i sent out was 103x24x57 and that cost £8.20
to get this price i got a bike box from my local halfords where the guy know me and save me the good one's
take the front wheel off, the back wheel off, and the seat off, pedals off, take the handle bars off but you can leave the cable still on and tuck them at the side of the bike - if you wrap them up it won't damage them against the frame - and the same with the wheels/seat, wrap them up and it all should go into the box with a bit of working out the best fit
so that's all in a box - taped up with strong tape
next is to pull up a new tab and go to this site
www.parcel2go.com/default.aspx
or any other site that couriers out - there are a few out there and every week it seems that one will go bust - at the mo the price for a good service is £8.20 - it has been £6.99 with other companies but have found not all can give a good service or has lasted this long as the one above.
Other's may tell you there is cheaper but you have to look into it ! this is why ever so often we have to post looking for a new courier
just register with them and then check you size and weight to see what there price is ?
little tip most two day /48H service's get picked up and driven over night to depo then sent out early morning and delivered by 11am - 5pm the next day - further away will take a bit longer - but it is the same as a one day/24H service (they just don't tell you that as it cost more for 24H)
you need the receivers full address and some times a phone number - double check addy to be sure you don't send it to the wrong or old house address
on the top of the box as you look at it (just as any other person would do )
put a clearly written label to where it 's going on the left , and you address on the on the right - don't forget some of the worker's moving you package around aren't hired for there looks or brains
off any bar codes or other info that might be on the sides of the box as all you want is the two address and nothing else that could be read and sent to the wrong place
courier's will pick it up about 11am or around 4pm on rounds (well mine does)
NEVER leave the parcel alone in the front of the house to any passer by could nick it - it also means that you know that the courier has received it and he can't calm that it wasn't there !
He will give you a receipt for it
it's not too hard - it's a bit of a worry the first time, but it get easier the more you do it
any other queries you have just pm me
cheers Bendycat
