Raleigh mad says he mastered the colour with a one coat system. I use a gold undercoat followed by a candy red topcoat. The best thing to do is take your forks to a paintshop and match them to the best colour. Theres 2 different shades of red, the early ones were deeper in colour. On the 78s the gold showed through more. What i did was spray a gold basecoat then spray 1 topcoat at a time untill i got the colour and depth i liked.

The problem is most early forks are faded. The true colour would be on the part of the fork thats hidden. By using a gold basecoat you can get the true colour match while builing up the layers of red.
I took my forks to the paintshop and they made up the paint to match. is it the may 76 your painting red?
