I know it's not original, Bernardi 6 spoke mags and it's single speed, dodgy saddle too Cotterpin thread is stripped, so it's clunking riding it along, can you get these anymore ? frame number is NL9416028 How do you know which year it was made ? ( I'm new to grifters )

I'd swap for a set of standard grifter wheels with a 3 speed hub. We need the gears for the other half to tow the litle kids with a bike trailer

I know of a late 70s 3-speed Raleigh folding bike for sale in Portslade. I believe it has 20" wheels and of course a Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub.
Might be worth a look as a donor for wheels and gearshift bits.
;D

Nice! It isn't your folder you are selling is it? I was ummm-ing and aaah-ing about buying it myself to clean up over the Winter so the Missus can have her own folder with a bit of retro-chic (and cheaper than another Brompton!) but it sounds like your need is more pressing so if you want I can PM you the email address and phone number of the seller.

Good point. I didn't know that.
Shame there's nowhere to mount a derailieur as there's also a Palamino mini MTB going cheap with 20" rims. That's Raleigh UK built but obviously a lot later than the Grifter.

You'll have to swap the chainset over too as the pitch of the chains differ from 3 speed to 5 speed BB owns it now and has done a fantastic resto job on it
